V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

1. Report/Update – Community Concerns Committee (Austin, Truitt, Bonas, Lunsford & Widdowson). John Bonas reported at the recent committee meeting the group decided that it was not geographically balanced. The impression from the 2007 Steering Committee was negative and not positive as to opinions of Wicomico. The Committee would like to approach input from residents on a positive note with responses to be addressed by the WNC. Their hand-out included four questions – 1. Where do you live in Wicomico County; 2. What do you like about living here; 3. What do you dislike about living here; and, 4. How should the WNC address your concerns? Questions 2 thru 4 have about seven response choices; each to be ranked on a 1 to 5 basis. After discussion it was decided that Kurt Sr. Drechsler and Terry Potterton would put the questionnaire on the WNC website for responses.

2. Web-site Update – Terry Potterton and Kurt Drechsler were given a well earned round of applause for their excellent work on the WNC website. A job well done. They reminded everyone of the website address: www.wicomiconc.org. and that  photos are always welcome. Email to: Terry This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3. Smart Growth Day at SU on April 28: Chairman Pilchard said she spoke on the need to develop neighborhood associations and how such groups contribute to Smart Growth. She said about 30 folks attended their session.

4. Government Filings – Vice-Chairman Mike Pretl was absent. Chairman Pilchard reported that we are waiting for acceptance from the State of Maryland for the application he submitted concerning the 501 (c) 3 process. Once Mike receives that he will file with the IRS for an EIN status. The entire process should take 3 to 6 months.

5. 1st Annual WNC Dinner & Presentation @ SU September 25. Chairman Pilchard said the committee consists of Mary Jane Marine, Dot Truitt, Dexter Lunsford and Barry Johannson. Others are welcome to serve. The committee would suggest a speaker. The event would probably cost around $35 to $40.00 per person.

VI. NEW BUSINESS:

Guest Speaker, May 25, 2010 – Jennifer Hicks – Sustainable Delmarva: Jennifer Hicks provided an over view of a community initially organized via a “World Café” , consisting of many diverse groups working to build common ground and strengthen social capital, social connections, and allowing the community to truly understand and act upon what it is they want for their future. Sustainable Delmarva leads three programs: Vision-to-Action which facilitates innovative large group conservations; Resource Clearing House which provides the necessary resources for communities to take action on their vision; and, Regional Networking which mobilizes on-the-ground stake holder networking to allow learning from one another and building meaningful relationships across political boundaries. The group was very interested in Jennifer’s presentation and believed her program to be a good “fit” for the WNC. She advised that a “World Café” event would cost about $7,000.00 and a Future Search, a 2 ½ day program would range from $15 to $17,000.00. She volunteered to help raise funding if the WNC was interested. For further information please contact Jennifer Hicks at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. VII. Good for the Order:

1. Peggy Battle – Merritt Mill Condo Association asked for recommendations for possible management companies. The group was kind enough to make some suggestions

2. The following were suggestions for possible speakers at the 1st Annual Dinner and Presentation: someone from the Attorney General’s office from the consumer protection division; Jennifer Hicks, a representative from Wallops Flight Facility; WBOC Captain Willey or Travels with Charlie – Charles Paparella.

VIII. ADJOURNMENT: By motion of Terry Potterton, seconded by Kurt Drechsler and carried, the general meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM.

IX. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting of the WNC is scheduled for June 22, 2010 at 6:30 PM at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore Office, East Park Professional Center Building, Suite # 401, East Park Drive off Belmont Avenue, Salisbury, MD unless notified otherwise.
